On the 1st of April 1980, Wands Ltd was set up as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Simonds Farsons Cisk p.l.c. and started operating as a separate company housed in the premises of what was previously The Malta Bottling Company in Qormi Road, Marsa.

With this move the Group created a greater focus on the importation and marketing of spirits, wines, beers, mineral water and non-alcoholic beverages.

Courage Ltd., the UK Brewing Company who had interests in Simonds Farsons Cisk p.l.c. were also major shareholders of Saccone & Speed, an importanat wines and spirits merchants with a branch in Malta.

On the 1st June 1984 Wands took over the operations of Saccone & Speed thereby further strengthening its prestigious product portfolio.

From 1984, Wands has grown to what it is today, commanding a substantial share of the imported wine and spirits market. Its salesforce directly services the more important outlets in Malta and Gozo. The company also sells its products through a chain of wholesalers who service both individual clients and the trade.

Wands is also involved in the retailing of fine wines and delicatessen. A subsidiary company was set up on the 20th March 1992 to operate two retail outlets, one in Sliema and another in the Shopping Plaza of the Malta International Airport. The Sliema outlet was closed down in 1998.

In July 1998 Wands opened its own Cash & Carry outlet within its premises in Marsa. Wands' Cash & Carry is a wines and spirits one-stop shop boasting a large choice and advantageous prices. The outlet also displays Wands' vast range of imported wines. The Cash & Carry also operates a premier service card awarding points for regular customers. The points are then redeemable with premium gifts.
